Temperament matters - We’ll be in an outdoor space shared with other people (and possibly other dogs). You’re the best judge of whether your pup will feel calm and comfortable.

Leads are essential - Many outdoor photography locations require dogs to remain on their lead. Make sure yours is happy and settled while on a lead.

They won’t be in every photo - Once your pup has had their moment in the spotlight, it’s helpful to have an extra person on hand to take them for a walk. (I’ve held a lead while taking photos before, but it’s not ideal!)

Burn off some energy first - If your dog is especially energetic, a walk before your session can make a big difference. You may like to arrive at the location 15 minutes early so your dog can have a walk and get used to all the new smells before the session starts.

What to pack – Handy extras include a lint roller, poop bags, treats, and some water for your pup.
